Astrology berasal dari bahasa Yunani “aster” atau “astrós” yang berarti “bintang”, dan "lógos" atau "lógou", yang bisa berarti “teori”, “studi” atau “belajar” Dalam artian, Astrology adalah studi atau belajar tentang benda-benda angkasa mencakup bintang dan planet.

Astrology pertama ditemukan di Babylonia yang kemudian berkembang ke Asia, Eropa dan Timur Tengah, seperti China, India dan Yunani. Seiring dengan perkembangan zaman, Astrology kemudian berbaur dengan bentuk Astrology yang sudah ada terlebih dahulu, sehingga sekarang kita mengenal tiga aliran besar Astrology yaitu: Astrology yang dikembangkan oleh orang-orang Barat, Astrology yang dikembangkan oleh orang-orang China, dan juga Astrology menurut ajaran Hindu (India).

Astrologi adalah ilmu pengetahuan tentang pengaruh dari kumpulan planet-planet, dan rasi-rasi lambang zodiak di angkasa. Dengan mengamati pengaruh tertentu dari aspek-aspek (bentuk sudut antara dua planet), posisi-posisi dimana planet itu berada pada lambang zodiak yang berbeda setiap saat, dapat diketahui planet-planet dan lambang zodiak yang mempengaruhi bumi dengan ketidakstabilan.

Seperti yang telah kita ketahui bahwa Astrology adalah cabang ilmu yang mempelajari tentang benda-benda angkasa, sekilas hampir mirip dengan Astronomy yang juga mempelajari tentang benda-benda angkasa, perbedaannya adalah bahwa Astronomy mempelajari fisik daripada benda-benda angkasa tersebut, sedangkan Astrology mempelajari energi, getaran atau pengaruh yang dikeluarkan oleh benda-benda angkasa tersebut terhadap semua kehidupan di Bumi.

Seiring dengan semakin berkembangnya ilmu Astrology maka semakin luas pula cakupan penelitian daripada Astrology itu sendiri. Astrology tidak hanya sebatas untuk melihat penafsiran-penafsiran kepribadian seseorang semata seperti masalah-masalah apa yang dihadapi oleh seseorang, tetapi telah jauh berkembang sampai ke bidang ilmu kedokteran.

Seorang Astrologer (praktisi Astrology) dapat mengindentifikasikan apakah seseorang itu menderita penyakit dan bisa mengidentifikasikan gejala-gejala tersebut. Dari Peta Kelahiran seseorang (berdasarkan jam, tanggal, bulan, tahun dan tempat lahir), maka seorang Astrologer dapat mengetahui apakah seseorang mempunyai kemungkinan terhadap suatu penyakit atau tidak. Sebagai contoh, apabila seseorang sudah terkena penyakit kanker maka Astrologer dapat memberikan solusi seperti apakah yang harus dilakukan, menjalani pengobatan melalui obat-obatan atau harus melakukan operasi (tergantung dari Peta Kelahiran orang tersebut).

Bagi orang yang telah dewasa atau telah berkembang, dapat mengingat secara baik bahwa nasib pantas diartikan sebagai apapun yang baik atau buruk yang kemungkinan dapat terjadi pada kita. Sedangkan takdir bisa diartikan sebagai keadaan sehari-hari di sekitar kita yang terlihat dan sudah terjadi. Astrologi merupakan petunjuk jalan untuk keperluan informasi tentang hal tersebut.

Melalui astrologi, Anda dapat mempelajari cara untuk memperbaiki kecakapan kerja Anda dalam roda kehidupan dan secara berkelangsungan memperbaiki nasib (bukan merubah) dengan kesadaran akan hukum-hukum alam dan bukan untuk dilanggar.

Planet-planet
Dalam Astrologi, kita mengenal sepuluh planet di langit menurut ukuran, jarak dan pengaruhnya pada bumi, umat manusia, binatang, tumbuhan juga mineral. Dalam urutan yang tepat dari yang tercepat melintas melalui zodiak adalah: Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune dan Pluto.

Untuk berbagai alasan, lebih meyakinkan jika dikatakan bahwa Sun ( Matahari ) yang melintasi Zodiak, bukan Bumi. Atau lebih mudah untuk membayangkan Bumi sebagai pusat observasi dan semua planet berputar mengelilinginya. Dalam Ilmu Astronomi, Sun adalah pusatnya sedangkan Bumi yang mengitari Sun dalam suatu orbit di antara Venus dan Mars.

Moon adalah sebuah satelit dan Bumi yang mengitarinya. Menurut pengamatan dari Bumi, Moon mengitari Bumi melintasi dari satu lambang ke lambang lainnya, membuat lintasan kira-kira dalam 28 hari untuk dua belas lambang zodiak.

Seorang astrologer yang terkemuka ( Alan Leo ) pernah mengatakan, “kehidupan adalah suatu penyesuaian internal yang terus-menerus terhadap lingkungan eksternal". Ini adalah penyataan yang jarang ditemukan, beliau juga begitu dihargai oleh banyak astrolog. “Penyesuaian internal” yang disebutkan sebagian besar dipengaruhi dan diarahkan oleh vibrasi planet, yang pada akhirnya meningkatkan keinginan, kecenderungan, sikap, perasaan dan pemikiran. Kualitas dan intensitas pemikiran menyebabkan tindakan-tindakan kita.

Tentang rumah duniawi dari langit
Ahli filsafat (philosopher) membagi kanopi langit menjadi 12 bagian, yang mana kita sebut “rumah” dari langit.
Posisi dari “rumah” dapat dilihat pada diagram dibawah ini.

Rumah pertama.
Posisi ini menyangkut rupa personal dari anda, karakter dan juga dapat mempengaruhi pikiran untuk tingkat tertentu, terutama sekali bila ada planet berada didalamnya. Cups rumah pertama disebut “ascendant.”
Bagian tubuh yang dikuasainya adalah kepala.

Rumah kedua.
Posisi ini menyangkut kekayaan, material, keuangan dan kemampuan Anda menghasilkan uang, usaha dan juga kebebasan anda.

AUSPICIOUS AREAS
Northwest
The most auspicious area in your house/office is the northwest area. This year northwest area is being visited by the #1 white star - amongst other things the #1 white star represents intelligence, wisdom, academic achievements, literary achievements, reputation and fame. The #1 white star is related to new beginnings and is regarded as the future prosperous wealth star.

The #1 white star in northwest (qian) palace will bring in luck for those who are in senior management or are holding powerful administrative posts. INAUSPICIOUS AREAS
North
This year the north is afflicted with the #5 yellow star. The #5 yellow star is known as the tragedy or calamity star. The #5 yellow star is inauspicious, malefic and one of the most dreaded star in feng shui. It is not only unusable and untimely, but it brings in disasters, calamities, loss of business, health problems and relationship problems. In the ancient texts it is mentioned that till the time the area that hosts the #5 yellow star is not disturbed the star will not show its malefic nature. Therefore, it is wise to avoid any form of ground - breaking, construction works, renovations and repair works in the north area.
The #5 yellow star is yang earth in nature and north (kan) palace is yang water in nature. In wu xing (five elements) theory earth destroys water. This means the northern side of cities, states, countries and continents will be more prone to natural disasters related to earth and water like floods, earthquakes and storms. There could be issues related to contaminated water, chemicals or medicines.

The #5 yellow star denotes fatalities, you will be prone to difficult to diagnose illnesses. People using this area often could face health problems related to kidneys, ears, genital and urinary bladder. Babies, expecting mother and senior citizens should avoid this area. Besides health problems you will face financial problems, delays and obstacles in conducting your work.

Remedy
This is one star that requires a remedy to keep it calm. Utilize any one of the remedies mentioned below. Remember not to disturb the star by doing construction, ground breaking or repair works in this area.

A six rod metal wind chime - when it rings it should make a metallic sound (unlike popular believe it is not the number of rods, but the sound that matters).
Salt water cure - in a medium sized glass bowl fill 3/4 salt and fill with water. The size of the bowl depends on the size of the house or the room. You will need to change this mixture every time it gets dry or dirty.
Other remedies include a metal wu lou (calabash). Six Chinese coins and round or circular brass or copper artifacts.

West
The west this year is afflicted with the #2 black star. This star is untimely, inauspicious and malefic in nature. The #2 black represents sickness. In my personal experience I have seen the #2 black star cause unnecessary delays, obstacles and abrupt change of plans. In the west the #2 black star could cause fire related accidents especially during September/October.

The #2 black star is yin earth in nature and the west (dui) palace is yin metal in nature. According to wu xing (five elements) theory the #2 black star nurtures the dui palace. Therefore, it will not show its extreme malefic nature however, during certain months you will have to take precautionary measures.

The #2 black star represents elderly women. The west sector represents younger woman. This could mean a conflict or dispute amongst women of the household. If you use the west area often, then you should double check your plans and be careful while making financial investments. If your house's/ office electrical mains are located in this area then check your equipment properly to prevent fire hazards.

Since the #2 black star represents sicknesses expecting mothers, babies and elderly people should avoid this area.

Remedy
Keeps the area quiet and avoid any form of renovation, construction or earth digging work in this area. Appropriate date selection will be required to do construction/repairs/renovations in this area.

You could place a metal wu lou (calabash) in this area. Another way to negate the #2 black stars negative attributes is to place salt water cure.

Salt water cure - In a medium sized glass or ceramic bowl fill half salt and top it up with water. Change the mixture whenever dry or dirty.

SAN SHA
East
This year the east is afflicted by san sha (also known as "Three killings" or saam set). The east is not a good area in 2009, appropriate date selection should be done before repair, renovation, ground breaking or construction works are done.

If your houses back door is located in this area you need to be careful of pilfering, robbery and armed assaults. In the modern world "being robbed" could be translated as loss of finances, somebody stealing your ideas, losing projects to competitors or losing/somebody stealing your work.

TAI SUI - Grand duke of Jupiter
Northeast
Tai sui changes its position every year and this year it occupies the northeast sector (15 - 45 degrees). Houses facing especially with doors located in and facing northeast will face the most problems. With tai sui located in your front door, you will find it difficult to progress. In offices it creates unnecessary delays, disruption of plans, unexpected legal hassles, robberies, anxiety, people turning against you and loss of money.

In one of the ancient texts it is written that whichever area tai sui is located one should not do any earth digging work. For safety reasons I include repairs, construction, digging of earth and too much noise. If disturbed tai sui can cause a lot of problems that ranges from bankruptcy, health issues, legal hassles, fights, disruption of work, accidents and the list is endless. Personally I have seen tai sui create havoc in the form of legal hassles, loss of money, disruption of work and robbery.

TSUI PO - year breaker
Southwest
Tsui Po is always located opposite to that of Tai sui. This year tsui po is located in southwest (195 - 225degrees). Tsui Po is also known as the year breaker. It is similar to tai sui and you should avoid doing any digging work in this area, for safety reasons I include repairs, renovation and too much noise.

Tsui Po disturbed creates all kinds of problems related to health, robberies, legal hassles, loss of wealth and the list continues.

Members of houses that face (15 - 45 degrees) northeast and have their back to southwest (195 - 225 degrees) need to exercise caution in all their decisions, it is best not to make any drastic changes in life, you should lay low and generally take it slow this year.

Note
People born in the same year as tai sui (Ji Chou - Earth Ox) or tsui po (Gui Wei - Water Goat), should be careful especially if you live in a northeast (15 - 45 degrees) facing house.

Animal birth signs
People born in the chou (ox) year i.e. 4th February 1937 - 4th February 1938, 4th February 1949 - 4th February 1950, 4th February 1961 - 4th February 1962, 4th February 1973 - 4th February 1974, 4th February 1985 - 4th February 1986, 4th February 1997 - 4th February 1998, 4th February 2009 - 4th February 2010 should be careful regarding their decisions and generally lay low this year. This year you will find it difficult to progress and there may be many changes in your life.

If you are born in wei (Goat) year - 4th February 1943 - 4th February 1944, 4th February 1955 - 4th February 1956, 4th February 1967 - 4th February 1968, 4th February 1979 - 4th February 1980, 4th February 1991 - 4th February 1992, 4th February 2003 - 4th February 2004 this year will be a difficult year for you, progress will be slow. Avoid unnecessary confrontations and disputes as you stand to loose more than gain anything. There will be many changes in your life.

Latar Belakang

Shio adalah simbol binatang cina yang mewakili 12 siklus tahunan. Mereka mewakili konsep siklus waktu, tidak seperti konsep waktu Barat yang diwakili dengan bintang-bintang. Kalendar Bulan Cina dibuat berdasarkan siklus dari bulan, dan dibangun dalam format berbeda dari kalendar Barat yang berbasiskan Matahari. Dalam kalendar Cina, awal tahun dimulai antara akhir Januari dan awal Februari. Cina mengadopsi kalender barat sejak tahun 1911, meskipun kalendar lunar (berbasiskan bulan) masih digunakan untuk acara-acara festival seperti Chinese New Year atau yang lebih dikenal dengan Imlek. Banyak kalendar Cina termasuk yang beredar di Indonesia mencetak dua versi baik itu kalendar yang berdasarkan matahari dan penanggalan Cina berdasarkan bulan.

Di Amerika, setiap tahun ditandai berdasarkan kelahiran Yesus Kristus, sebagai contoh, 1998 berarti 1,998 tahun setelah kelahiran Kristus. Ini mewakili persepsi linear waktu, dimana waktu berproses secara garis lurus dari masa lalu masa kini dan masa mendatang. Dalam adat Cina tradisional, metode penanggalan adalah berdasarkan siklus, siklus berarti sesuatu terjadi berdasarkan siklus waktu. Metode rakyat yang populer dimana kita dapat melihat metode siklus ini adalah perekaman tahun ke dalam Dua Belas Tanda Binatang. Setiap tahun di tandai dengan nama binatang atau "shio" sesuai dengan siklus yang berputar : Tikus, Kerbau, Macan, Kelinci, Naga, Ular, Kuda, Kambing, Monyet, Ayam, Anjing dan Babi. Oleh karena itu, setiap dua belas tahun binatang atau shio yang sama akan muncul.

Shio binatang juga menandakan fungsi sosial yang berguna untuk mencari tahu umur seseorang. Daripada menanyakan berapa umur seseorang, seringkali orang hanya bertanya apa shio dari orang tersebut. Ini akan menaruh orang tersebut dalam siklus 12 tahun, dan dengan sedikit akal sehat, kita bisa menghitung umur orang tersebut.

Legenda Shio

Menurut legenda tradisional Cina, ke dua belas binatang dikumpulkan dalam satu hari untuk menentukan siapa yang menjadi pemimpin dalam siklus pertahunan. Sang Khalik membuat kontes tersebut: siapapun yang dapat menyeberang sungai akan mendapat giliran pertama, dan sisanya akan mengikuti urutan sesuai dengan kedatangan mereka.

Pada awalnya kedua belas binatang berkumpul di dalamnya termasuk kucing. Kucing memberitahu berita ini kepada teman baiknya si Tikus, dan mereka setuju untuk pergi berdua keesokan harinya. Namun, ketika hari dimana kontes dimulai Tikus tidak membangunkan Kucing, yang sebagai seorang kucing senang sekali tidur sepanjang hari. Maka itu kucing tidak mengikuti lomba dan tidak masuk dalam siklus tahunan shio.

Pada saat kompetesi, tikus yang penuh akal menumpang pada si Kerbau yang kuat dan gagah untuk menyeberangi sungai. Ketika kerbau sudah mau meloncat ke tepian seberang sungai, tanpa sepengetahuan Kerbau, si Tikus meloncat dari punggung kerbau, dan menjadikan dia pemenang kontes. Binatang terakhir adalah binatang malas yaitu Babi yang pemalas, oleh karena itu Tikus menjadi tahun pertama dari siklus shio, dan diakhiri oleh babi tanpa adanya shio Kucing dalam dua belas siklus tahun itu. Dan oleh karena itu juga, menurut legenda, permusuhan antara kucing dengan tikus dimulai dan masih berlanjut sampai sekarang.
